The Test of Verbal Conceptualization and Fluency (TVCF) by Cecil R. Reynolds is a nationally standardized, norm-referenced assessment instrument designed to measure multiple aspects of executive functions principally related to the integrity of the frontal lobes of the brain through the use of several verbally weighted tasks. The brevity of the TVCF, as well as the particular mental dimensions it assesses, make it useful in evaluating children suspected of having or known to have ADHD, emotional disturbances, and sensory or orthopedic impairments.

The Comprehensive Trail-Making Test Second Edition (CTMT 2), also authored by Cecil R. Renyolds, is a standardized assessment that uses five visual search and sequencing tasks, called trails, that are heavily influenced by attention, concentration, resistance to distraction, and cognitive flexibility (or set-shifting). The test’s primary uses include the evaluation and diagnosis of brain injury and other forms of central nervous system compromise. Other purposes include detection of frontal lobe deficits; problems with psychomotor speed, visual search and sequencing, and attention; and impairments in set shifting along with monitoring recovery from concussion and other forms of TBI.

The Trails-X is an innovative take on the traditional trail-making task that includes additional executive function demands by requiring examinees to connect circles of alternating colors with no designated start or end point.
